Sorry guys, but I have to strongly disagree with your summary of debating atheist. Other people read/view them as well.
You r right, most people participate with their minds already made up. They live by what they believe is true logic. But what happens when their logic runs out?
Everyone will come to the end of themselves at some point or another. Debating atheist challenges their reason and logic, for which neither can be explained.
Do you think that Jesus would shed His precious blood for just ONE sinner? If Jesus came for all, then why not study up and learn where we are in the battle field and be ready to win souls for Christ. No man goes to battle without learning their opponents tactics.
What is so horrendous about us reaching out to perhaps just that one?
On 2peter3 I had a former scoffing atheist message me privately. He told me that because of watching debates, he realized that there had to be some sort of designer. He wanted to know about Jesus and could their be some other gods. I gave him what I felt the LORD impressed upon me to give. I don't know if that man got saved, but he did change is name to "----- the x atheist". I still pray for him.
On godvine, I had 2 personal messages from atheist as well, admitting their doubt.
We may not lead them to Christ, but we can plant seeds.
Before the debates became popular, the atheist were leading our children away from God unchallenged. Today, 70 % of Children raised in church will turn away from God. Yet God wants our children to "Remember thy Creator in the days of thy youth"
We listen, we learn, we shun error, and seek to maintain truth.
There's no question, one day their logic or reason will run out, who will they turn to for help if we shun them now?
