There was a very specific purpose for this...
It had to do with Peter. Peter refused to believe Jesus when Jesus said that He must suffer and die.
I could try to explain it, but Gary Carpenter preached a sermon recently that covered it thoroughly and with the full context of scripture showing exactly what was going on including the start where Peter tells Jesus that He shall not die to the point where Peter returns to fishing and Jesus has to come to him to restore him.
I highly recommend the sermon...

Thank you. I knew there has to be a lesson to be learned there otherwise God would not have included that experience. I just never knew exactly what it was since it just ended abruptly as it did.
