Answer Question
So, I have been dealing with alot lately concerning the Scriptures, Not sure where all this fits in?
First, let me say I I'm not trying to be a trouble maker, or against anyone or any preacher.
I found that all my life I had believed in a doctrine that belonged to the pre-conceived ideas of man.
The Scriptures alone have straightened me out on truth.
But now, I find myself wondering, (perhaps even seeing though I don't want too) if the church of today is on the right track?
I sit and hear sermon after sermon. The preacher says, "God gave me this message." another preacher in another church says "God gave me this message"...their sermons preach against each others doctrines.
Who's right?
They both admit at times they are wrong.
Some, like Bob Jones III just anounced publicly an apology for something he preached 35 years ago. He said that he could hardly believe he actually preached that, and it seemed like a different person. But Bob Jones was full of the Holy Spirit? Right?
I'm beginning to wonder if it is Biblical for one man telling everyone else how to read their Bibles?
If a man claims that the Lord gave him a message, then is it not as good as Scripture?
You see I recently had contact with a Catholic and he explained that b/c the Church (Rome) had the sanction of the Holy Spirit, then it was as good as Scripture. That's the authority of their church. I now understand them, but don't agree at all b/c I believe the Scriptures are complete. How terrible that I now am seeing the same thing going on in Christian churches. The only difference is that Rome admits to what they are claiming. Preachers of today say I'm not perfect, and admit they get off track with their preaching, but the message came from the Holy Spirit.
What happened to Acts 17:11. Is this what true church should be?
Is todays church so infused with the authority of one man, we are losing track of the Scriptures?
It no longer seems to exist?
I believe in pastorial authority. I've heard many sermons before. "Obey them that have the rule over you". Ok. No problem.
But what is their role? Has it changed today since the Scriptures are complete? Again, what about Acts 17:11? The NT church did this and Paul said it was Nobel. Some how I believe this is the key. What if the Churches practiced this again?
But I am rather confused. Somebody rebuke me and set me straight. Sola Scriptura. Thanks
