Why is it that man wants to only remember the bad?
I know the reason why Satan himself will only remember the bad in people, and that is because he is the accuser. But man on the other hand, I don't see why it is so natural for "us" to remember the bad, but forget the good people does. For example, my dad. He was hard on us when my brothers and I were growing up. He died in 1997, and even to this day, I barely remember any good times with him, just a few. I would like to think that there was much more than what I can remember, but I cannot think of many "good times", only the times where he punished me in ways that was overboard. So it raises my question, why is is easier for man to remember the bad and not the good in people.
And in the same line, why is it that the majority of people will concentrate on the bad in someone while they are alive, but when that person dies, they want to "lift them up" and focus only on the good. For example, my best friend. While he was alive, most people concentrated on his drinking problem, and other things he had done. But when he was murdered, I heard nothing but good about him from the very same people. To be honest, it made me angry. I see that as hypocrisy. I remember thinking why didn't they focus on his wonderful and great qualities while he was alive? If they would have, he may have made better choices, and still be alive today. (Maybe)
